BIG COUNTRY'S Stuart Adamson

Hi there!.
Big Country star in the week's super "Suzy/Tops" pin-up and, although the band is relatively new on the pop scene, it's leader, Stuart Adamson, has had a notable musical career. His first experince of chart success came in 1978 with Skids, his former band. Skids' biggest hit was "Into The valley" which broke in the Top Ten in 1979. The group disbanded around two years later and Stuart eventually recruited Mark Brzezcki, guitarist Bruce Watson and bassist Tony Butler to form Big Country. Together they toured the country, building up an army of supporters before storming the charts with superb hit singles like "Fields Of Fire," "In A Big Country," "Chance" and "Wonderland" to find the success they so richly deserve.

Name - Stuart Adamson
Born - Dunfermline, Scotland (sic - Stuart was born in Manchester!)
Birthdate - April 11, 1958
Birthsign - Aries
Hair - Brown
Eyes - Blue
Height - 6 ft.

Home-loving Stuart is reluctant to spend any great length of time travelling around the country or even working in London. He misses his family a great deal and whenever he's away he can't wait to get back to his wife, Sandra, and their son, Callum, who is now just over two years old.

Before he became involved with the music business, Stuart was an environmental health officer, worked in a factory, tiled the roofs of houses and even tried his hand at being an accountant, but hated that so much he gave it up after only four weeks!

Stuart writes most of Big Country's material and has been writing songs since he was still at school where he made his first serious attempt as a composer, aged 13.

With so many hit singles and TV appearances behind them, you'd think the lads in Big Country would be quite accustomed to mixing with famous celebrities. They still like to collect autographs, though, and, while recording a TV show at the Granada Studios, they were thrilled to meet some of their favourite stars from "Coronation Street."
